JARA products are full of vegetables, healthy and most of all delicious to eat. But to enjoy our products to the fullest, you should know how and why we started making them in the first place. This is more than 'just a story'. It is a story of creating a solution to a problem: food waste.

HOW IT ALL STARTED

JARA was started during the first Corona lock-down in spring 2020, after seeing our fellow farmers struggling to sell their produce with restaurants being closed. The potential loss was enormous, so we decided to take action. In order to support these local sustainable farmers and prevent food waste we bought their surplus, saving tons of vegetables destined to be thrown away. We ourselves also grow vegetables in our urban farm in Amsterdam West using regenerative agricultural practices. Here is where we came up with new recipes, combined forces and turned all these fresh ingredients into delicious, healthy and vegan preserves.

TRANSFORMING A PROBLEM INTO A SOLUTION

We have been continuing production by purchasing ingredients from our farming community in the Netherlands at fair prices while turning the organic waste from our production process into compost that goes back into the soil, creating a circular economy. JARA products are 100% natural, gluten-free, vegan, without artificial additives. Bursting with vegetables (at least 90% per jar!) and directly from sustainable farms in the Netherlands to your table. Enjoy them as spread on your bread or as dip!

MEET OUR FOUNDER: ANDRES JARA

'My name is Andres Jara. I am a Colombian cook, farmer and co-farm manager of the urban farm De Stadsgroenteboer in Amsterdam West, and founder of JARA. Together with my family, friends and the members of my team I put a lot of work and passion into growing honestly harvested food.

At De Stadsgroenteboer we grow vegetables using sustainable and regenerative agricultural techniques. By using ingredients that are in our urban farm and in the farming community in the Netherlands I created the JARA products to inspire people and create awareness of our food choices. For the recipes of JARA products I was inspired by my life’s experience. With these preserves I share my passion and dream of bringing healthy, high-quality, seasonal delicious food on your plate.

By involving more people we can have a greater impact, and we are happy to involve you also in our project of circular economy. By choosing JARA products you will be part of our community and you will support many local sustainable businesses in the Netherlands, while eating delicious and healthy food.'
